But don’t let that fool you into thinking you can plant them in the winter.Ĭarrots planted late in the fall will continue growing in the winter months, but the lower temps will produce lighter colors. Plant it early so that it has plenty of time to grow before the weather really starts to heat up. If you try to grow it when it’s warmer, the buds that make up the floret will start to open up and get bitter. You can plant it about 3-4 weeks before your average last spring frost date. It is one of my favorite veggies.īroccoli is quite frost tolerant.
